Kaupthing commercials starring John Cleese…I especially like the part where he asks why doesn’t Kaupthing just call everyone instead of making those commercials because that’s what we were also doing.
A lot of fuzz was made regarding the cost of having such a famous actor appear in commercials for an Icelandic bank at the time. According to my information, the cost was not crazy compared to the commercials of that time. John Cleese ain’t exactly Tom Cruise and Hollywood actors are paid according to the “catchment” numbers in the area where the commercials are aired. And Iceland is an extremely small catchment area.
Cleese’s question is still valid though? Why are the three state owned banks making commercials today with the current state of the economy?

I think you’ll find that these ads are at least a year old, possibly longer.
