Individual debt grows by 129%

Individual debt has risen 129% in the last five years, to 1,348 billion ISK at the years end in 2007. 

From tax returns from 2003, 120 individuals owed more than 50 million ISK and one individual more than 400 million. Five years later these numbers had grown to 1.841 who owed more than 50 million, 44 who owed more than 400 million and 18 who owed more than a billion. 

This is according to an article in Tiund, the newsletter published by the Tax Authorities.
