David Oddson’s ascent to the editorial position of Morgunbladid has shaken the nation.
It might be hard for you to understand if you’re not from here but he is one of the most manipulative politicians in a democratic society ever.
Imagine if Margaret Thatcher had been the mayor of London, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and then Central Bank Governor. Imagine if she had made her friends and children district and supreme court justices, then made sure that some of her friends got Barclay’s Bank for free. Then she’d start controlling the Telegraph, Financial Times and the Sun.
What is making people angry about his new job is the fact that David Oddson built and maintained the society that collapsed last year. And a year on, with not a single person having had to answer for their part, in spite of overwhelming evidence of reckless and in some cases illegal actions, it is hard for people to see the main culprits not only walking around town but manoeuvring into positions of wealth and power yet again. And it is especially galling to see such a pivotal figure assume a position where he can control the public discussion, at a time when his previous work should be under scrutiny.
David Oddson does not unite a country in a dire need of unison, he polarizes everything. If David Oddson liked to eat little babies then there would be plenty of people in Iceland who’d happily round them up and fire up the barbecue.
He neither heals or helps, all he can do is hurt. And that is why Icelandic society is shaking because a single man has just started a new job.

How is it that Icelanders are continuing to allow this stuff to go on?? I don’t understand it. The culprits responsible for bringing down your nation are not being punished or held accountable… far from it actually. They are being rewarded into new positions of power and influence. And if that continues to go on, then so will the corruption. History will repeat itself. Unbelievable really. And unacceptable. I can totally understand your anger, disappointment and frustration. If only there were more Icelanders fighting the battle with you.
