“Why Should These People Be Paid Bonuses?”

I’ll never forget the CEO who shouted out loud, “What, why should these people be paid bonuses? They already get a salary to do their job”. The same CEO who stood in line to cash in hundreds of millions in a bonus system called stock options. On top of a monthly salary of 16 of the kinds of employees being discussed.

It is hilarious the idea that bankers must receive outlandish bonuses for doing their jobs.

They usually threaten that they’ll leave their jobs and countries if they don’t get paid in accordance to their massive responsibilities.

The thing though is that bankers’ bonuses are irrevelant of talent or accountability. They are usually implemented by overbearing CEO’s and board members who take care of each other and their closest allies.

Funnily enough, there does not seem to be a lot of demand abroad for the Icelandic bankers who received the highest bonuses in the last ten years.

But that’s OK, they got away with as much as they could. And those that are left and those that follow in their footprints are going to try their darndest to get theirs.

In this global economic environment it should be alright to offer them a decent basic salary and rising bonuses based on actual results(no mark to market accounting) and accountability if they don’t deliver.

And if they don’t accept it then tell them to get lost. And just allow some other idiots to be taken for a ride.
