Posting will be infrequent in the next few days. Here is the “good” stuff from Wikileaks.
Wikileaks IceDebt Negotiation Emails
Basically the email issue shows that once Icelandic political parties are in government they stop caring about openness and transparency.
Wikileaks Landsbankinn’s Russian Connection
Look, a bankrupt businessman goes to Russia in the nineties to set up an alcohol bottling plant. Amazingly escapes contact with mafia and then returns home as the new owner of a newly privatized bank. Whose privatization was overseen by the political party which he has supported so engagingly.
Russian connections??? What a surprise?
From the Euromoney article:
Is it a good idea for such a large stake in the bank to be controlled by individuals with no track record in banking? And what’s the background of these people who apparently earned their fortune in the beverage business in Russia? Indeed the validity of their first, key acquistion in Russia – a soft drinks bottler in St. Petersburg – has been challenged vigorously in Russian and Icelandic courts by the original owners.

hi dadi,
i have huge respect for your blog and enjoy reading it…a salt ion in the soup.
the wikileaks landsbankinn document is a real bummer, pp.49-50 (finance department and sales department) are nice ones. jesus maria, and these guys got a bank…god bless island!
the amazing thing is that the banks which financed lb obviously were pointed towards the “bizness methods” of father&son team. this wikileaks document in combination with the landsbankin creditors list (one of your previous posts) could be a nice “contribution” to the next deutsche bank shareholder meeting

Seems to be working fine for me Claus. Click on the link and then select the “(fastest) Sweden” link. It will take some time to open though.
