Bjorgolfur Thor laughed all the way to the bank and is now laughing all the way from the bank.
He made his money from beer in post-Soviet Russia and was given Landsbankinn as a gift from the Independence Party of David Oddson and Geir Haarde for the small price of arranging high-paying jobs for people within the party and generous donations.
He turned it into his own piggy-bank, becoming the first Icelandic dollar billionaire through acquisitions in Iceland and abroad according to Forbes.
And when the financial markets rejected the bank’s business model and tried to price it into regression it opened up the IceSave account in the UK. “Pure genius”, was the word on the street.
But the genius did not stop there. When the bubble burst, he was found smiling on a yacht in Cannes, with fat bank accounts around the world and the debts that had consumed Landsbankinn were paid for by the people of Iceland.
Even Jesus had to be nailed to a cross before obtaining such ridiculous good-will from his people.
