Remember these two faces.
Asmundur Einar Dadason, MP for Left Greens and Styrmir Gunnarsson, former Morgunbladid editor-in chief.
They are speaking for a future of an Iceland that is afraid of the world, forever small, closed-off and vulnerable.
That is how they want it. That is what their small minds can grasp. And that is how they draw their power. They have a sixth sense for seeing dead ideas.
They are trying to get their message across while the nation is vulnerable to nationalism. This is the time when xenophobic ideas are well received because so many feel like they have been wronged and they need a common enemy.
In many ways they are succeeding.
Because people are vulnerable and afraid. Just like Asmundur and Styrmir.
And if their ideas will gain more following then the Icelandic nation will end up as sad as they are.

That Styrmir wants that kind of Iceland, is totally understandable to me. He had a great time when his friends were in charge.
But that a young, left/green, MP who owns an import business (!) is of that antiquated opinion makes no sense to me.

Unrelated, but from that article:
“Luckily the dress code of tie or bow tie in Althingi was abolished after the elections, thanks to the Civic Movement, a new party formed before the elections whose MPs objected strongly to wearing any kind of formal wear at work.”
Good to see they accomplished something before they imploded then
