A Cold Call

Daði?

Yes.

Good evening, my name is xxxxx calling from Allianz, am I interrupting you?

No not at all.

Good, can I ask you a couple of questions?

Sure.

Are you saving your pension (a 401k of sorts) with us?

No.

How important do you consider your pension?

Important enough to get it the hell out of the reach of any Icelandic financial institution as soon as possible.

So you’re not interested in a visit from one of our advisors?

No, I’m sorry, absolutely not.

Thank you for your time.

I took part in building what was probably one of the most efficient call centers in Icelandic history, Kaupthing’s phone sale center. I would recommend financial institutions to stay away from cold sales calls to Icelanders for a while.

Unless you are willing to risk your personal finances on an uncertain future, then the best advise possible is to hold your horses until the banking landscape and the government’s actions on debt reduction is known.

But really, it would be absolute madness to remain loyal to a system that failed so spectacularly and hasn’t changed.
